   READING CAN SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS?
There is a dearth of reading in our context (affecting both the church and the society), but there are many books and other positively interesting reading materials ranging from newspapers, magazines, literatures, textbooks and the Bible to read for the purpose of self discoveries, empowerment and personal development.

(ERCON) INTERNATIONAL

AKA THE GARDEN CLUB

MOTTO: With God, Learners are Readers and Readers are Leaders!

INTRODUCTION TO EDEN READERS’ CLUB OF NIGERIA

We are motivated to encourage intense research work through the Internet and the cultivation of books reading habit as a culture of life in our society. Reading of Positive information to the ears and the mind we trust saves and makes life fulfilled.

It’s for the need to let folk know this that we started the Eden Readers’ Club.

ERCON INT’L is a non-governmental and interdenominational commission of young persons, started in Jos in the year 2002, became active in 2004, with the commitment to help promote intense reading culture in Nigeria, and Africa at large. There is a dearth of reading in our context (affecting both the church and the society), but there are many books and other positively interesting reading materials ranging from newspapers, magazines, literatures, textbooks and the Bible to read for the purpose of self discoveries, empowerment and personal development.

However, few of these richly endowed stuffs are being explored, read and widely studied on daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly basis- especially by people from this part of the world - Africa. Someone said that if you want to keep something away from a black man (African), just put it in a written (book) form and that settles it! This observation is probably true in our contemporary Nigeria, Africa and other parts of the world, mostly amongst young people who are the engine room for all round transformation of the society. Apart from youth, many of our folks do not want to subject themselves to the rigor of reading and intense research work for wisdom, information and knowledge, with which to promote their natural dignity, change attitude, build a culture of peace, set themselves free from the bondage of poverty and be at a cutting edge for outstanding breakthroughs.

In essence, even amidst of all these dooms, they would rather spend endless times in the bar, front of television sets: peering nonsense (if so called) than sparing a reasonable hour reading something that can revolutionize their lives physically, spiritually or studying hard to prove themselves equal to the task of attacking societal challenges intelligently.

No wonder we have a terrific number of illiterates in our society, the standard of education has fallen drastically in our schools and the revelation knowledge of God’s word dead in our churches today.

And many die of HIV/AIDS and other terrible illness for lack of information and wisdom attributed to ignorance.
